Jeff Parent was a very versatile and most consistent athlete as demonstrated by his Suffield and UConn careers. Jeff's start in organized sports began in the Suffield Little League where he was chosen as an All Star at the age of twelve. His early years foreshadowed an outstanding high school career that began in 1969. Jeff decided to play soccer in the fall of his freshman year. His athleticism and determination were quickly recognized by his coaches, and Jeff soon became a valuable varsity backfield stalwart. Jeff was chosen to the NCCC All Conference teams in his junior and senior years. He captained the team as a senior and led them to an NCCC league championship.

In the spring seasons, Jeff was an outstanding baseball player. Jeff won the varsity shortstop position as a freshman where his outstanding defense and potent bat earned him an NCCC All Star selection as a senior. Jeff led the Wildcats to consecutive NCCC titles in 1972-73, and as a senior co-captain led the team to the State Class M semi-finals. Jeff also was an honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society.

After graduating from SHS Jeff played three years of varsity soccer at UConn. His defensive ability helped UConn teams to national rankings each year. In addition, UConn won league championships from 1974-76 as well as New England titles in 1974 and '76. UConn finished in the top eight in the National Soccer Tournament in 1974-'76. Jeff's collegiate career earned him a professional soccer tryout after graduation. With a year of college athletic eligibility left, Jeff (who never played organized football before) won the job as kicking specialist for the football team during a graduate program.

Jeff Parent was a gifted athlete, a leader and an excellent student. He has coached soccer after his schooling; he assisted with the 1979 SHS Class M state champions. For many years after his collegiate career, Jeff was a fixture in the CT State Soccer Association as both a player and serving in administrative roles.
